That’s funny, I thought the answer was ‘an iPod’ or ‘Robosapien’
Guess what sort of company paid for the survey in this press release: New research from XXX reveals that digital cameras are top of Brits’ Christmas lists this year. When asked which technology items they would most like to receive this season, almost one fifth (19%) of the people polled admit that unwrapping the latest in digital photography and printing will put a smile on their face..
Yes - Kodak. Remarkably though it says the figures from its survey do bear it out:
So what do Brits really want for Christmas 2004?
These must be some techno-wizzy Brits out there. Interesting how “3G mobile phone” isn’t up there…

- How do you stop Nicole Kidman being famous? If Sony et al can answer that, they can beat the iPod (21 September 2005; score: 45.03%)

Well, I’m not really surprised at all… Naturally Digi cameras are going to be more popular- mp3 players are more focussed on the youth market, and literally everyone can use and has a use for a camera. Both products have large markets, but the existing camera base is larger, hence more replacement cameras being bought, rather than just new models for people who dont have one at all.
Anecdotal evidence- freind who works in Dixons sees far more sales of digicams, rather than ipods and the like- these are the bulk of buyers- the mums and dads buying in high street stores. Also, glancing at Amazon’s sales ranks, the £99.99 Olympus they have on offer is at number 4 on the sales list, with the ipod 20gig at 8. Pretty close, but i’d wager the high street sales tip the balance quite clearly in imaging’s favour, as the survey shows.
Personally speaking, I got an ipod mini in september, getting a Ixus 40 for christmas. Happy Consumer Holidays!

I have to agree. I don’t expect anyone to buy me an iPod at the UK price - and Robosapien is, lets face it, a piece of crap.
My Xmas list is headed by a digital camera and also includes kitchen gadgets.
