Napster To Go: right idea (sort of), wrong price; and broadband takeup
Over at Netimperative I’ve now got a regular weekly gig writing on, ooh, this and that.
Latest one: why Napster To Go’s subscription service misses the mark.
Previous columns: why Google isn’t going into VoIP (which expands on what I wrote here earlier); and which month this year will see 50 per cent of Britons using broadband.
The latter is very interesting - with lots of potential up- and downsides.
Update Mon 23:20 (is that the time?): John Gruber has a splendid piece on this topic using his Magic 8-Ball to answer all your questions about the Napster To Go proposition. Read all the way to the end for the excellent, if techy, joke.
And finally: USA Today has the admeter for the Superbowl adverts, where Napster spent $30 million, showing them ranked by “popularity”. Keep scrolling.. scrolling… keep going.. down.. bit further… bit more..looking for “Napster” here.. not just yet..

Hey - great piece Jonny. Clearly the next thing for us all to find out is precisely which payment system prevails for subscription, and whether it benefits the artists and/or labels more than straight downloads.

Yeah. The MCPS/PRS press office hasn’t responded, but i have queries out with some of the labels, and some other sources are sniffing for me. if I hear I’ll post it here, but I’m interested too.
