Doing the math on music videos: surprisingly cheap
Over at Netimperative I’ve run my sliderule over 3’s announcement that 10 million music videos have been downloaded or streamed by its customers.
Given that each video ostensibly has a price of £1.50, that sounds like good business, eh? But not so fast. There are some deals going on out there… which to me suggests that once you do the numbers, 3 is selling these videos for only a little more than Apple sells songs (sans video) on the iTunes Music Store (or indeed Napster on its site).
But it’s a great way to get customers onto your network. However, I suspect that it won’t work the same way for selling music videos online to computers.
